activation error

Activation Error

When I try to activate vista b2, it fails with this error:
"the data is invalid"
Anyone know what might be causing it and how I fix it ?

Could be a leaked copy - where did you get your copy of Vista from?

If you are installing from Daemon Tools it could be the cause, as soon as you are installing DAEMON ISO-Mounter 3.02 -> the machine will turn to 'not activated' and no longer will be able to get activated. So, try uninstalling Daemon Tools and see if activation works then, -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I don't have daemon tools installed.
This was an upgrade installation from XPSP2, I have uninstalled any virtual cd apps in case that causes the same issue as daemon tools but still I get the error..
I tried activation over the phone, but when asked for the long installation id all I have displayed is:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
which is probably why it fails..
I have 1 day left to activate so guess I am gonna have to do a clean install :-(

My installation hangs when I enter the key that Microsoft provided me. If I enter my XP Pro key, it tells me right away that it's invalid. Any ideas why?

It's just a bug - try a different method of installing - virtual mounting, re-burning on a lower speed setting... check this: http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.php?getstarted - option 4

The Windows Vista activation will not work on my Compaq Presario X1000 laptop. I know that I've typed my product key correctly, but it keeps telling me that my product key is in use. I tried clicking "Change product key" and retyping the key, but then it kept telling me that the key is invalid. Then it locked me out of my computer, and kept asking me for the product key when I started my computer. Each time I typed the key, it told me the key was invalid. I reformatted my hard drive, and reinstalled Vista. Now, I'm back to the same problem with it telling me my key is already in use.
Later, I tried installing Windows Vista on my HP Pavilion desktop computer. I used the same key, and I didn't have any problems at all. Windows activated successfully. Why would the activation work on the desktop computer, but not on my laptop?

I'm still having the same problem. Any suggestions?

5 day getting activation request then pick retype you product key an error message comes up 0x800705B4. Will not let me in at all.
Also tried to install a program that I use a lot (tracking the eye a hurricane program) it uses net frame 1.1 guess what will not work.
Reinstalled beta and keep getting the smae error to activate.

Is this product key installed on multiple computers?
Also, .net framework 2.0 is standard, so you will likely have to wait for the 3rd party program to catch up to you.

no a single pc. Have already reformated it and reinstalled it and its working ok. Also installed netframe 1.1 with the sp1 and so far working ok. The software that was in question in a hurricane tracking program and since I live in florida I will make it work if you know what I mean.
Thx Stev

Good stuff, at least you got it going, but you should visit connect.microsoft.com and let them know

Take a look at this article. It worked perfectly for me.

I had originally installed Vista 5384 on a seperate partion of my hard drive, activation worked fine, but I found that when I tried to boot into Win XP the system hung up. So, after reformatting the drive and reinstalling Win XP, I reinstalled Vista on a seperate hard drive, but when I try and activate it, I now get a message that the product key is already in use. None of the links for contacting Microsofty work, when clicked on and I don't have another product key to try. Any ideas on this?

Whenever I try to activate Windows Vista BETA 2 on my Compaq Presario X1000 laptop, I get the error, “"The product key you typed is already in use". I’ve reinstalled Vista multiple times, and even reformatted my hard drive. I immediately tried activating before installing any programs and still get the same error. When I click “Type a different product key” and retype the key exactly how it appears in the e-mail from Microsoft, it tells me that I have an invalid key.
I know my key is valid and not already in use because after attempting to activate it on my laptop, I used the exact same key on my desktop computer. It worked perfectly. I have no idea why it isn’t working on my laptop. I followed the steps at: http://blogs.microsoft.nl/tonykrijnen/archive/2006/06/19/1795.aspx but that did not work. I also installed all of the most recent Windows Updates, but that also didn’t help. Can somebody please help me, or tell me who I need to contact to get help? Thank you.

Ok, I have fixed the problem. I turned off the User Account Control and then Vista activated without any problems. While UAC is a great idea, I'm beginning to think it does more harm than good. I hope it will be improved in the final release of Windows Vista.
